How do I sign my child up to BDR Gymnastics?

How are term fees paid?

Term fees are payable in full before the start of each term via bank transfer.New gymnasts are welcome to attend one trial session before committing to and paying the full term fees.Fees for our Main Squad can be paid in two instalments.Our termly payment structure means families only pay for scheduled gymnastics sessions and are not charged during the school holidays when regular classes are not running.

Does my child need British Gymnastics membership and insurance?

Yes. All gymnasts are required to register with British Gymnastics and pay the annual membership fee, which is currently £26.This provides your child with the required insurance and is mandatory for gymnasts attending a club affiliated with British Gymnastics.New members can complete their registration here:https://www.british-gymnastics.org/renewal-options

What should my child wear and bring to class?

Optional BDR Gymnastics uniform is available to purchase.For female gymnasts, we recommend wearing a leotard. Alternatively, fitted leggings or shorts with a T-shirt are suitable.Male gymnasts can wear a unitard with shorts, or shorts with a T-shirt.For safety, gymnasts should not wear jeans, clothing with hoods or zips, or excessively baggy clothing.Children should arrive changed and ready for their session, with easy-to-remove clothing worn over their gymnastics attire where needed.Shoes and socks must be removed before participating in the class.Please keep belongings to a minimum. Children should only bring essential items such as a water bottle, small bag, coat and any required medical devices.All jewellery must be removed before class. New piercings that cannot yet be removed must be securely covered with tape provided by the parent or carer.

Are the classes mixed ability?

Our recreational classes are organised primarily by age group. Within each class, gymnasts may then be grouped according to their ability, skill level and previous achievements.This allows our coaches to adapt activities appropriately so that each gymnast can work at a level that challenges and supports them.

Question 6

How do I know which class is right for my child?

Accepted Answer

Don't worry if you're unsure which class to choose. Our team can help recommend the most appropriate class based on your child's age and previous gymnastics experience.Gymnasts are continually assessed by our coaches. If we feel your child is ready to progress to another class or programme, a member of our team will contact you.

Question 7

Can my child attend a make-up class if they miss their usual session?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer make-up sessions for missed classes.We maintain specific gymnast-to-coach ratios to ensure classes remain safe and provide a high standard of coaching. For this reason, we cannot add additional children to other classes when a session is missed.

Are parents allowed to watch classes?

Accepted Answer

We operate a drop-off and collection system and encourage independent learning. In our experience, children are often able to concentrate, engage with their coaches and develop their confidence more effectively when parents and carers are not continually watching.We hold a Parents' Watching Week at the end of term. This is a wonderful opportunity to watch your child's class, celebrate their progress and see them receive their achievement awards.

Is there parking at the school?

There is no parking available on the school premises.Free parking is available on surrounding roads from 4:30pm. We recommend checking local parking signs and restrictions before leaving your vehicle.

Question 10

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer a 10% discount on term fees for each additional sibling enrolled at BDR Gymnastics.We also offer discounted rates for some of our squad programmes. Please contact us for further information.

Question 11

How can I see my child's progress?

Accepted Answer

All of our recreational gymnasts work towards the British Gymnastics RISE Award Scheme and are assessed twice a year.When gymnasts successfully achieve their award, they receive a medal and certificate at the end of term.During Parents' Watching Week, you will have the opportunity to see the skills your child has been working on and celebrate their progress. Information about the skills being assessed can also be viewed at the club, or our team will be happy to provide this to you.Gymnasts are also invited to participate in our annual BDR Gymnastics Club Competition, giving them an exciting opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have developed and celebrate their achievements.

Can my child complete their Duke of Edinburgh's Award volunteering at BDR Gymnastics?

Yes. Subject to availability and the requirements of their award, young people are welcome to complete the volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh's Award with BDR Gymnastics.Please contact us in advance, as volunteering spaces are limited.

Question 13

Does BDR Gymnastics offer opportunities for young people interested in coaching?

Yes. For young people aged 13+ who are interested in developing their coaching and leadership skills, we offer a Young Leaders Programme.This gives young people the opportunity to gain valuable experience within a gymnastics environment, learn from our coaching team and begin developing the skills needed for a future pathway into gymnastics coaching.Please contact us to find out more about current opportunities and availability.
